Tour Brief
The Genekha Matsutake Festival (often referred to as the Geney Mushroom Festival) is an annual two-day celebration held in mid-August in the Geney/Genekha Gewog of Thimphu. It celebrates the seasonal harvest of the prized wild Matsutake mushroom (Sangay Shamo), promoting sustainable harvesting and showcasing Bhutan’s rural heritage.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1: (Arrival, Paro – Thimphu (By Car, approx. 1.30Hrs)
Welcome to Bhutan. Upon arrival, be greeted by your local guide and escorted to the capital, Thimphu, passing by the Tamchog Lhakang Iron Bridge En Route. Hotel check-in, then head for the Buddha Dordenma Statue and continue to meet the nuns at Zilukha Nunnery. Later, visit Thimphu Dzong (Tashichho Dzong), the largest religious building in Thimphu and the central administrative centre (open after 5 pm, Monday to Friday). Overnight@thimphu
Day 2: Thimphu-Genyekha (1hr drive)
Morning after b/fast drive towards Genyekha village to celebrate the mastsutake festival. Evening to Paro for a night stay. Overnight@paro
Day 3: Day hike to Tiger’s Nest (5-6 hrs)
This morning, hike to visit Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest), be amazed by the view of this sacred temple hanging on the rocky cliff, and take in the beauty of the Paro valley. After that, move to the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong, built to commemorate Bhutan’s victory over the Tibetan invaders. In good weather, you’ll see a great distant view of Mt. Jhomolhari. If time permits, visit Kyichu temple, the oldest temple in Bhutan, Later free time in paro town, Evening there will be entertainment about Bhutanese culture show. Overnight@ Paro
Day 4: Depart Paro
Say good bye to Bhutan today. After breakfast, we will escort you to the airport for your departure
